Most homeowners think a power strip is enough. It isn't. A whole-home surge protective device is installed directly into your electrical system - at the panel level - to help limit transient voltage surges before they ever reach your appliances, electronics, or HVAC equipment. That's a completely different level of protection than anything you plug into a wall.

Here's the thing though - not every panel is set up the same way. Before we install a surge protective device, we do a full panel and service compatibility check. We need to know what we're working with. Whether it's a newer Square D Homeline panel, a GE setup, or a meter-main combo on the exterior of the home, each one has its own requirements. We don't skip that step.

We handle surge protective device installations for both residential and commercial properties across Metro Atlanta. And if you already have an older surge protector in place, we can evaluate it and replace it if it's no longer doing its job. These devices do wear out over time - especially after they've absorbed a significant surge.

One thing worth understanding is what a whole-home SPD actually does and doesn't do. It helps limit certain transient voltage surges that come in through your service. It doesn't prevent every possible surge, and it doesn't replace the individual device-level protection you might use for sensitive equipment like a home theater or server setup. We'll always be straight with you about that. No overselling, just honest work.

Charles R. Morton Electric LLC is licensed, insured, and serving the Metro Atlanta area for both residential and commercial electrical needs. If surge protection is something you've been putting off, it's worth a conversation.
